SEH Launches myUTN USB Device Servers
New Devices Allow Network Access of USB Devices With No Location-based Restrictions
Bielefeld, August 11, 2008. – The German network specialist SEH announces today two device servers for utilizing USB devices over Windows networks (Vista, XP). The German network specialist thus broadens its solution portfolio to include intelligent solutions for network access of USB devices. Utilizing the myUTN USB device servers, users benefit from heightened mobility and flexibility as they can use their USB devices without spatial restrictions via a network. The USB device servers attach many simple as well as complex USB devices which are used in many different industries and environments. The model myUTN-50 connects USB devices to Ethernet/Fast Ethernet networks (10BaseT/100BaseTX) and is available at a price of 155 Euro, excluding VAT. The twin model myUTN-52 allows the use of USB devices over an eavesdropping secure fiber optic network and costs 379 Euro, excluding VAT. Both models are available as of now.
The USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection standard is used to attach a great number of diverse peripheral devices to PCs and notebooks. Until recently, technical reasons allowed only the connection of USB devices locally or via USB switch. As the recommended maximum length for USB cables is only five meters this left a short range around the computer to use the devices. The SEH myUTN USB device servers provide a solution by creating a virtual USB cable via the network for flexible and independent utilization of USB devices.
Simple Installation and Utilization
The models myUTN-50 and myUTN-52 are plug&play: They are simply attached to a Windows network (Vista, XP), there is no need for special drivers. The connected USB devices can be transparently managed just as if they were locally connected. The myUTN devices connect disk drives, card readers, medical devices, bar code scanners, printers and MFPs, scanners, PDAs and many more. SOHO and entertainment devices such as mp3 players, TV set-up-boxes can also be managed by myUTN. The software SEH UTN Manager, which is installed on the computers, allows for a quick and simple installation. Users can configure and manage the myUTN devices with the myUTN Web Control Center.
Applications for One or More Users
Thanks to the software SEH UTN Manager the devices can be configured so that only one user can access them like a local peripheral, e.g. with AutoConnect for automatic connection to the PC upon booting. It is also possible to allow several users to access the same USB device. If a user no longer needs to access this device, he will have to release it so the next person can access it.
Secure Network Access Like a Local Connection
The myUTN USB device servers provide a direct and secure point-to-point connection via the network, protecting the connected USB devices from unauthorized access. On top of this the devices come with a comprehensive security package including password protection, access control, encryption, port access control, and the support of secure protocols like HTTPS and SNMPv3. Utilizing myUTN-52, users also benefit from the eavesdropping security of fiber optic networks.
Comprehensive Service Included
The scope of services for myUTN-50 und myUTN-52 includes regular software and firmware updates, comprehensive support, and a three year warranty.
