DEPARTMENT STORE CREAMS MAY BE A PIE IN THE FACE

/24-7PressRelease.com/ - San Francisco, CA, April 8, 2005 - Time marches on...and sooner than later you may notice it"s taking a toll on your face. As we age, our skin begins to loosen on the face and neck. Crow"s feet appear at the corners of the eyes. Fine forehead lines become creases and then, deeper folds. Gravity sets in and we develop jowls and under our chin, another chin or vertical folds appear at the neck. Combating the signs of aging is an ever-increasing host of treatments, creams, and therapies.

A trip to your department store cosmetic counter can be overwhelming...do I need rapid cell turn-over cream, Vitamin C serum, or a rejuvenating masque? Each new product touts firmer and smoother skin - so how do know what to choose? In order to separate fact from fiction, Dr. David Mabrie, a prominent San Francisco facial cosmetic surgeon, was consulted.

"There are a variety of nice products that can be purchased over-the-counter. However, cosmetic treatments can only improve the surface layers of the skin. Men and women who are shopping for younger looking skin at the cosmetic counter may find themselves disappointed. In order to treat deeper lines and rejuvenate your overall appearance, consult with a physician that specializes in facial rejuvenation."

"There are several options used in cosmetic surgery to treat aging of the face including Botox, wrinkle-fillers like Restylane and Radiesse, and surgery. Depending on the patient"s needs, we can use a combination of these treatments and procedures to achieve a more youthful appearance."

What"s right for you?

Botox

Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines. Botox may be used to treat forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), crow"s feet (next to the eyes), smile or laugh lines (around the mouth and eyes), and banding that sometimes occurs in the neck.

It is important to remember that Botox is not a permanent solution for troubling wrinkles, because the effects are not permanent. For many patients, however, the effects have been quite dramatic. Although individual results vary, the results achieved from a single treatment usually last three to six months.

Restylane

Restylane is a natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
Restylane injections are a non-surgical procedure that provides a temporary solution to people wanting to achieve a smoother, more youthful look, with a minimal amount of pain. Plus, patients do not lose time from their daily activities because there is no recovery time. A Restylane treatment can be performed during a lunchtime period. Patients usually enjoy a smoother, more youthful appearance for up to six months.

Surgery

For a more permanent solution to the affects of again, many patients decide on surgery. While facelift surgery cannot stop the aging process, it may deter and offset some of its effects. A facelift offers many patients a way to address the effects of heredity, sun exposure, smoking, etc. In some cases, a patient receiving the facelift may appear to be a decade younger than their actual age.
