VI. International Theatre Summer Academy
14 july - 2 august 2008
Artistic direction Prof. Dr. Jurij Alschitz

DEAMATER Cultural movements from Sardinia and the European Association for Theatre Culture with its European Team of Teachers under the artistic direction of Prof. Dr. Jurij Alschitz invites actors, directors, teachers, choreographers, and playwrights to a creative summer season in Posada, one of the most suggestive sites on the Sardinia oriental coast: a little medieval village situated on a calcareous hill, dominated by the ancient tower named “Castello della Fava” that overlooks the blue sea.
The summer programme 2008 offers a broad variety for continuous education, recreation and reorganisation of one’s “artistic health”. The different professional lifes need different forms to prepare oneself for the next season.

The VI. International Theatre Summer Academy
offers three intensive training courses as a full-time study programme, which will introduce the recent developments of research opening new aspects for the different professions, and provoking your system by extending its capacity.
I. School for Professional Actors
14 july- 2 august
II. School for Young Actors
14 - 27 july
III. School for Directors, Acting Teachers, Choreographers and Playwrights
18 july – 2 august
IV. Open School of Ideas
3 open evenings

I. School for Professional Actors
This course is only for professional actors. It is an alternative education, a new method and new research. The entire Stanislavsky system aims to help actors to wake up the subconscious starting from their consciousness. But there exists another way:
from the subconscious to consciousness, from intuition to the rational analysis. We look for a special language for this relationship and the expression of sense and meaning.
The main topic will be the Vertical of the Role – a method for the actor’s self-preparation. We like that each actor will know how to prepare the role by him or herself without a director.
After learning the technique how to create a Vertical, we will move to the subject how to play it, leading to the metaphysics of word and gesture.

II. School for Young Artists
For beginners before and in drama school.
Intensive training, with discussions on theatre technique, the actor’s profession, and artistic ethics. The main subject for the students will be to formulate their personal visions and their questions about theatre, asking “What is my theatre?”

III. School for Directors, Acting Teachers, Choreographers and playwrights
Principles of composition are well-known and connect arts such as music, painting, and theatre. But unlike in music, painting or drawing, in theatre we do not find and if we do, it is quite unconscious the use of these principles.
If actors are “playing composition” instead of “playing situation” they reach a completely different level of speaking, acting, thinking. Directors should have the methodological know-how to lead this kind of acting. They must train their actors in this work-method.
They should be able to understand the laws of composition in order to be able to compose their performance on all levels: the composition of the play, the scene, tempo-rhythm, the themes, atmosphere, sound, images, just to name a few. Choreographers will find new aspects and new approaches for their work, which is naturally based on the art of composition. Acting teachers might find a new subject for the curriculum of their academy, because apparently there is very little knowledge amongst actors about composition as a basic tool for acting.
