CIGA to Honor Industry Leaders
- SACRAMENTO, CA, February 08, 2007 - California Independent Grocers Association (CIGA) holds its annual Installation Banquet on Saturday, April 14, at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento. CIGA will honor Outgoing Chairman of the Board Scott Hair of Green Frog Markets in Bakersfield who will hand the gavel to incoming Chairman Del Clegg of Cookie Crock Markets in Cambria. A long time member of CIGA, Mr. Clegg will begin a two-year term beginning May 1, 2007.
Sacramento-based comedian Jack Gallagher has been slated to entertain guests at this annual banquet that will also honor select CIGA members for their outstanding contributions to the independent grocery industry.
Dick Gong, G&G Supermarkets in Santa Rosa, CA will receive the prestigious Retailer of the Year Award. A long time member and active supporter of CIGA, Dick is a former President of CIGA"s Coastal Division Board of Directors and currently serves on CIGA"s Annual Sonoma Golf Tournament Committee -a CIGA tradition for 48 years.
Byron Lovell, Western Division President of C & S Wholesale Grocers, will receive CIGA"s Associate Member of the Year Award. Byron is a long time CIGA member and active supporter of the industry. He is currently serving a three-year term as a Director of the Board.
Also honored at the banquet will be Bob Spengler, President of Save Mart Supermarkets. Mr. Spengler has served as an officer on the CIGA Board for many years and will complete his board service in April, 2007.
Jack Gallagher will begin his stand-up comedy routine following the presentation of awards. With a current recurring role on the HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mr. Gallagher continues to make audiences laugh after a long career highlighted by appearances on the Tonight Show, several successful one-man shows, and a brief starring role in an ABC sitcom titled Bringing Up Jack. He has won Emmy Awards for his work on the PBS series Money Moves, and has appeared in numerous television shows and movies.
