- ENFIELD, MIDDX, UK, December 11, 2005 - Book Description: Like any ten year old, KJ wants a normal family Christmas, but with his immediate family torn apart by domestic violence he has been taken from his home in London to live with his grandparents in rural Scotland. Grief-stricken and traumatised, KJ is initially unable to talk about what he has experienced. Following an accident at school KJ is in a coma and in an attempt to help him regain consciousness various people, including his closest family members, are brought to talk to him.

KJ wakes up to find that he has missed Christmas but also learns that things are not necessarily as final as he had thought. He is furious to learn that his grandparents, fearing for his safety, have been preventing him from having contact with the family he loves and misses so much. However there is something he can do to salvage what is left of his family - if only he can find the courage to talk about what he has witnessed and experienced. He is eventually able to begin to do this by drawing a series of pictures. When he learns that there is a new baby in the family this strengthens his resolve to do whatever he can to bring his family back together - hopefully in time for the next Christmas....

Unsure who he can really trust but determined to obtain justice for his family KJ courageously navigates his way through the adult world of the criminal justice system and those who want to protect him and thanks to his brave efforts finally emerges triumphant. At last KJ is able to look forward to having those he loves around him again - but will they come home in time for Christmas?

About the Author: Carol Owens was born in Hampshire, England in 1955. She has three adult children and has worked as a playleader in a preschool and a special needs welfare assistant in a middle school in a fairly underprivileged area. As a mature social sciences student graduating in 1995 she wrote her dissertation on the topic of prisoners" families, comparing the English and Swedish systems. For the last eight years she has been running her own childcare business and is currently training as an assessor for early years care and education. She lives with her husband in Milton Keynes.
