Insulin Manufacturing in India: Opportunities Pouring In


- NEW DELHI, INDIA, June 29, 2006 - Followed by China, India is the second country in the number of diabetics worldwide. There"re about 30Mn patients of diabetes in India at present, whereas this number is expected to cross 50Mn towards the year 2025.

With leading pharmaceutical majors such as Ranbaxy, Nicholas Piramal, Cipla, Bharat Biotech and Shantha Biotech exploring the possibilities that exist in this sector, the insulin segment in India is heading towards a price war. At present, Levemir (the long acting insulin) is accountable for 10% of the 3.5Bn insulin market in India. It"s expected to take over žth of basal insulin market in India till March 2007".
