1510 AM The Zone of Boston "s Weekend Thunder NASCAR Radio Show to Broadcast Live from NHIS Sunday
- BOSTON, MA, September 15, 2006 — This Sunday, September 17, Boston "s Weekend Thunder NASCAR radio show returns to New Hampshire International Speedway.
The program, Boston"s only NASCAR show on the region"s only NASCAR station—1510 AM The Zone, will begin its pre-race programming live from the infield at 11 a.m. and will lead into the Motor Racing Network"s national coverage of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series" SYLVANIA 300.
New England native and stock car racing pioneer Ken Squier, owner of the No. 49 BAM racing entry Beth Ann Morgenthau, and representatives from SYLVANIA will join the pre-race show at the track.
Following the race, Weekend Thunder will return to the air with a recap of the day"s events, special guests, and a live feed to the post-race press conference in the infield media center.
"We"re really looking forward to getting back to Loudon and once again giving our listeners a taste of what the scene is like at a Nextel Cup race," said Weekend Thunder host Bob MacKinnon. "We"ve got some great guests lined up, and their connections to New England will only make their interviews more engaging. This will also be the first time we"ve had a feed to the post-race conference so that will be a special treat."
Ken Squier is one of the most influential personalities in NASCAR history, having coined the term "Great American Race" as a catchphrase for the Daytona 500, developed the in-car camera, and called races for CBS Sports for more than 20 years. Among his dozens of other exploits and innovations, he also owns the famous Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre , Vt. along with the independent WDEV Radio in Waterbury , Vt.
BAM Racing meanwhile was formed in 2001 as an ARCA/REMAX Series team before turning its attention to NASCAR racing the following season. Since then BAM has fielded cars in the Cup Series for drivers including Ken Schrader, Derrike Cope, Shawna Robinson, Ron Hornaday, Stacy Compton and others. Currently Shelburne , Vt. native Kevin Lepage pilots the team"s Dodge Chargers.
Finally, long time NHIS sponsor OSRAM SYLVANIA was recently re-upped to serve as the title sponsor for the September race at the track for another five years. Representatives from the company will stop by to discuss their connection to New England and NASCAR with the Weekend Thunder team.
In addition, the ever popular on-line fantasy race picking contest turns to Chase Mode this week as the standings reset before the start of the Chase to the Nextel Cup. Contestants must make all new picks before the drop of the green flag at New Hampshire and may do so at the all new website, www.ThunderCup.com.
