Join an online art community that helps promote and sell your work

- January 28, 2007 - New website ArtistsOnline.org.uk is tapping into the massive latent market in existence for art and crafts by enabling artists to sell their own work online. ArtistsOnline is a kind of myspace for visual artists of all kinds, from painters to ceramicists, and sculptors to jewellery makers. It allows them to have their own online gallery where they are able to promote - and sell - their work for no cost to themselves and with very little effort.

Through easy-to-use toolkits, artists can organise their own artwork, advertise their events, create a CV online, list real world locations that sell their artwork and much more.

ArtistsOnline.org.uk was born from the desire to promote artists as much as to sell their art. The site gives artists their own online profile page and autonomy for what they want to put on it.

The artists also charge the prices that they decide to set rather than going through a gallery or agent middleman.

More than anything, though, it gives artists the opportunity to have exposure in what is, effectively, an enormous gallery without walls or borders - just as easily accessible from Denver, Colorado as Dulwich, London.

ArtistsOnline gets thousands of hits each month from visitors interested in browsing and buying art and represents a fantastic opportunity for artists to get exposure to the massive number of people interested in buying art and crafts but without the time to visit galleries.

An Arts Council report earlier this year showed that the craft market alone in the UK is worth 883 million annually with potential to grow by 63%. One of the key findings in the report was that there are 4.4 million potential buyers in a craft market of 11.3 million. They have not yet bought any original craft works but aspire to do so. This professional-looking site with impressive features enables artists to get exposure to that market with a minimum of fuss.

Artists can sign up for free today and can be selling their art almost immediately.

Nadia Mansuri, a mixed media artist and jewellery maker who has her own space on ArtistsOnline said that the concept is a really positive one for artists. "It basically means that we can be in control of the sale of our own work to a mass market". Nadia said that ArtistsOnline is revolutionising artists" access to their audiences without compromising their independence. "I feel that it"s really important that more and more artists are being able to reach large, geographically unlimited audiences independently - ArtistsOnline represents a giant step forward for artists in general."

Ed Lea, founder of the site, said:
"I originally had the idea for ArtistsOnline because a number of my friends were artists who wanted to promote their work on the internet cheaply and with a minimum of hassle. At first this was about exposure, but I soon realised that this was also a brilliant way for artists to sell their work to a much bigger marketplace than they have previously had access to. But crucially it is the artists who remain totally in control of the whole process."

Graham Rhodes, an artist who has drawings and paintings on ArtistsOnline said:
"As well as having a brilliant concept, artists online succeeds because it looks very professional and is extremely user-friendly. It"s definitely a good place for artists to sell their work."
