FUR-EVER Gentle Giant Sweethearts Looking for FOREVER Love
- February 09, 2007 - The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League (MAGDRL) is caring for some truly amazing Great Danes who are just waiting for their forever homes. MAGDRL takes in abandoned, stray and unwanted Danes; we provide veterinary care, love, and attention to these special orphans. Although MAGDRL covers a large part of the eastern seaboard, North Carolina often has more Danes than any of the other states in this organization. We have recently had a particularly strong influx of Great Danes and are pleading for your consideration in adopting one of our Gentle Giants.
MAGDRL receives well-loved Danes whose have lost their owners through death or divorce and those whose families have come upon unexpected financial problems or another crisis, precipitating the need to re-home their beloved family pets. We also receive Danes who have become "expendable", simply because they grew up, or the family lost interest in them. And, unfortunately, we see quite a few cases of neglect and abuse. We assess the temperament of all the dogs we accept, and do not knowingly accept any dog deemed aggressive toward people or considered non-rehabilitative.
MAGDRL spends enormous time and resources working with the Danes in our system to enable them to become the best dogs they can be. Some of the Danes show talent in the training arena, and are enrolled in obedience school. Others are particularly social and come to our regularly scheduled, public "Meet and Greets" to help educate the public about the breed and good dog care. A substantial percentage of the Danes who we adopt out go on to earn the Good Dog Citizen Award and some have even become therapy dogs.
Because of this commitment to care and rehabilitation, the Danes in our care are loveable creatures who typically make great family pets and who often get along well with other animals, even small ones! These Danes will give back many times over the love given them. Like most Danes, these "furkids" tend to bond strongly with their family, like to lie around on sofas or a dog bed, and enjoy their daily "zoomies" around the back yard.
